TechTalk #42: Slick on Scala
Hey friends and technology lovers,
Have you ever gone crazy while retrieving data from relational databases using Java and Hibernate as your ORM? I did. Using those kinda outdated technologies causes a lot of overhead and is such a hassle!
That’s why I’d like to share my experiences with Scala’s functional-relational mapping tool Slick. Slick is a modern database query and access library for Scala. It allows us to work with stored data almost as if we were using Scala collections. And those collections are quite comfy, handy, and powerful due to Scala’s functional paradigm. In this tech talk, we’ll learn how to write our database queries in Scala instead of SQL. This gives us the advantage of Scala’s static datatype checking and compile-time safety while still having full control of what’s going on.
Don’t miss this opportunity if you’ve ever wondered if there’s a more elegant way to access your database. The tech talk is given in Bahasa Indonesia (at least I’ll try hard)!
